Parallel Structure in Sentence: Parallelism

Your work will be more persuasive and clear if it uses parallel structure (Also known as parallelism) by establishing readable word patterns, and parallel syntactic structure.

For example

Not Parallel: Mike likes hiking, biking, and to take afternoon naps. 

Parallel: Mike likes hiking, biking, and taking afternoon naps. 

OR Mike likes to hike, bike, and take afternoon naps.

Not Parallel: I took her dancing and to a show. 

Parallel: I took her to a dance and a show.

Not Parallel: I would rather pay for my education than financial aid. 

Parallel: I would rather pay for my education than receive financial aid.

Not Parallel: Mike likes swimming (noun), hiking (noun), and to ride a motorcycle (phrase).
Parallel: Mike likes swimming(noun), hiking(noun), and riding a motorcycle(noun)

Not Parallel: Mr. Haris is a lawyer (noun), a politician (noun) and he teaches (clause).
Parallel: Mr. Haris is a lawyer (noun), a lawyer (noun) and a teacher (noun).

Not Parallel: The soldiers approached the enemy camp slowly (adverb) and silent (adjective).
Parallel: The soldiers approached the enemy camp slowly (adverb) and silently (adverb)
